Abstract

Tidal power extraction sites are characterized by turbulent flows. The influence of sea bottom relief  on turbulence, and the interaction between tidal turbines and turbulent flows have to be studied in the purpose of installing industrial tidal turbine farms. These issues are investigated with LBM (Lattice Boltzmann Method) associated with large eddy simulation (LES). The Synthetic Eddy Method (SEM) is implemented in this code. Numerical simulations with SEM entry limit conditions are compared with periodic simulations. A good agreement of turbulence characteristics, and a short length of convergence are observed in some cases. Other cases encourage investigating improvements.
