Abstract
The sensitivity of the large-eddy simulation of a strong tidal flow to the inlet boundary condition is assessed through three simulations of a realistic domain, using three different boundary conditions: a periodic boundary condition, a Dirichlet condition with constant velocity and a Dirichlet boundary condition with synthetic turbulence. This work highlights the advantages and drawbacks of each method. The relevance of the introduction of synthetic turbulence, in the case of a Dirichlet boundary condition, is demonstrated to prevent simulation anomalies close to the inlet.
